GENERAL INFORMATION
Cyclists for Cultural Exchange was established in 2004 with the express purpose of furthering peace and international understanding through exchanges between people with a common interest in cycling. CCE is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization located in Santa Cruz County, California. The organization runs one major fund-raising event each year, strawberryfields forever bike ride, that provides the monies distributed in support of its Mission.
OBJECTIVES AND PURPOSES
The primary purpose of this corporation shall be to promote peace, understanding and friendship among peoples around the world through our common interests in cycling. Activities promoting this purpose may include but are not limited to, the following:
1) Exchange Programs - Bringing bicyclists to America and taking American bicyclists to other countries to experience the people, cultures, and history of our neighbors in this world. Our intention in the time we have together is to discover our differences, find our common ground, become familiar with the language, customs, and traditions of the host country and share our visions, hopes and dreams for cooperation and world peace.
2) Network - Networking with and supporting other individuals, groups and organizations with similar goals. Encourage others to find their own avenues to appreciate and understand the diversity of our world.
3) Education – Educating others about the power and possibility of interpersonal exchanges between people of different countries and cultures.
FUNDING
CCE looks for grant proposals from organizations sharing the objectives and purposes of CCE.
FUNDING PRIORITIES
Activities funded will be ones promoting the following purposes:
1) Exchange programs – Supporting efforts that will bring bicyclists to America and take American bicyclists to other countries to experience the people, cultures, and history of our neighbors in this world – where such people lack the personal financial resources to do this on their own. Such programs must be designed so that, in the time they have together, the participants discover differences, find common ground, become familiar with the language, customs, and traditions of the host country and join in cooperative activities that work towards world peace.
2) Network – Support networking groups and organizations with similar goals for peace and inter-cultural exchange. Preference will be given to organizations and groups that develop networks through shared interests in bicycling.
3) Education – Educating others about the power and possibility of interpersonal exchanges between people of different countries and cultures based on exchanges and networking related to bicycling.
ORGANIZATIONS FUNDED
CCE will give preference to organizations that show their commitment to bicycle activities over multi-year periods and to organizations that are breaking new ground in making cross-cultural connections through cycling.
GRANT AMOUNTS
Grant amounts of any size up to $2,500 will be considered. While most grants will be given for a single year, CCE will consider the possibility of up to three years of support for ongoing projects.
